THIS REPORT SUMMARIZES AND PRESENTS STATISTICS ON THE NUMBERS OF INMATES ADMITTED TO, RELEASED FROM, AND CONFINED PENNSYLVANIA'S CORRECTIONAL FACILITIES DURING 1979.
Abstract
THE REPORT WILL BE SENT TO COMMONWEALTH CORRECTIONS ADMINISTRATORS AND PLANNERS, LEGISLATORS, JUDICIAL PERSONNEL, STATE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM PERSONNEL, COMMONWEALTH OFFICIALS, AND STATE LIBRARY SYSTEMS. IT DISCUSSES THE INMATE POPULATION, DISCHARGES, ESCAPES, AND COURT COMMITMENTS, AS WELL AS PRESENTING DEFINITIONS OF TERMS USED IN THE DOCUMENT AND CATEGORIES OF CRIMES AND OFFENSES. FOR THE FIRST TIME, IT INCLUDES INFORMATION ON TIME SERVED, OFFENSE DISTRIBUTIONS, INMATE MAINTENANCE COSTS, PERSONNEL COMPLEMENT, AND THE AGE DISTRIBUTION AND LENGTH OF SERVICE FOR THE CORRECTIONAL OFFICER/MATRON CADRE. IT ALSO PROVIDES HISTORICAL DATA IN MANY INSTANCES AS FAR BACK AS 1960. FIGURES AND TABLES COVERING ADMISSIONS, COMMITMENTS, OFFENSES, POPULATION, RELEASES, AGE, RACE, SEX, AND DISCHARGES ARE INCLUDED. (JLF)
