This interactive multimedia training program relates to the performance objectives prescribed by the California Commission on Peace Office Standards and Training (POST) under Penal Code Section 832, which pertains to training in arrest procedures and the use and management of firearms; this manual contains the student training materials for the firearms module.
Abstract
This computer-based multimedia program provides students the opportunity to learn individually or in a group. Individually, students can progress at their own pace and convenience, receive immediate feedback on their performance, and conduct a self-assessment of their knowledge and skills. When used in a group, an instructor can control the pace of training and use the system to generate discussion among students. The division of student materials into two parts, i.e., arrest and firearms, reflects the POST division of the training into two separate courses. In addition to completing the interactive videodisc (IVD) program, students are required to demonstrate skills in arrest techniques, pass the examination on arrest procedures, and complete a course of fire for the firearms portion. The IVD program is divided into 10 modules, with each module composed of a series of lessons and a quiz. Each lesson is further broken down into sections and a lesson exercise. The module for firearms encompasses handgun familiarization; handgun safety; the care, cleaning, and storage of a handgun; handgun shooting principles; and firearms range qualifications.
