A NARRATIVE ACCOUNT OF TYPICAL PATROL ACTIVITIES AND SITUATIONS FOR THE POLICE ON THE NIGHT, DAY, AND EVENING SHIFTS IN NEW YORK CITY.
Abstract
THE AUTHOR DESCRIBES THE ACTIONS AND FEELINGS OF THE PATROLMAN ON THE NIGHT SHIFT, OR THE 'WITCH WATCH,' AND LISTS TYPICAL SIGHTS AND SITUATIONS THE OFFICER MAY MEET DURING THE NIGHT HOURS. THE DAY SHIFT ACTIVITIES, RANGING FROM HANDLING PARKING COMPLAINTS TO INVESTIGATING BURGLARIES ARE THEN EXPLORED. SITUATIONS COMMON TO THE EVENING SHIFT ARE DRAMATICALLY DESCRIBED, SHOWING THE EFFECTS THESE SITUATIONS MAY HAVE ON THE POLICEMAN AND THE EMOTIONS OF THOSE HE HELPS.
