Abstract
THIS REPORT DISCUSSES INFORMATION OBTAINED FROM QUESTIONNAIRES SENT TO 757 PUBLIC SCHOOL DISTRICT SUPERINTENDENTS AND TO 50 SCHOOL SECURITY DIRECTORS, TOGETHER WITH VARIOUS ADDITIONAL STUDIES OF SCHOOL VIOLENCE AND VANDALISM GATHERED BY THE SUBCOMMITTEE. THE REPORT IS DIVIDED INTO SEVERAL SECTIONS, THE FIRST OF WHICH IS A GENERAL OVERVIEW OF SOME OF THE TRENDS AND CAUSES OF SCHOOL VIOLENCE AND VANDALISM THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY. THE SECOND SECTION IS A REGIONAL BREAKDOWN OF THE SUBCOMMITTEE'S FINDINGS ON HOW SCHOOL VIOLENCE AND VANDALISM IS AFFECTING THE NORTHEAST, NORTHCENTRAL, SOUTH AND WEST AREAS OF THE COUNTRY. THE THIRD AND FOURTH SECTIONS DEAL WITH FEDERAL AND STATE LEGISLATION IN THIS AREA UNDER STUDY. THE FINAL SECTION DETAILS THE SUBCOMMITTEE'S FUTURE GOALS.
