RESEARCH BASED ON SELF-REPORTING, TESTING THE CORRELATION BETWEEN DELINQUENT BEHAVIOR AMONG YOUNG PEOPLE, AND THEIR DEGREE OF SOCIAL INTEGRATION.
Abstract
SOCIAL INTEGRATION IS MEASURED IN FOUR SUBSYSTEMS INCLUDING FAMILY, SCHOOL, WORK, AND THE SOCIAL CIRCLE IN WHICH LEISURE TIME IS SPENT. CRITERIA FOR INTEGRATION INCLUDE FIRM RELATIONSHIPS WITH SIGNIFICANT PERSONS SUCH AS PARENTS AND TEACHERS, THE WISH TO CONFORM, A POSITIVE ATTITUDE TOWARDS SCHOOL AND WORK, AND PARTICIPATION IN THE SOCIAL SUBSYSTEMS. RESULTS INDICATE A CORRELATION BETWEEN POOR INTEGRATION IN THE FAMILY AND DELINQUENT BEHAVIOR. JOB STABILITY APPEARS TO BE A STRONG INDICATOR OF SOCIAL INTEGRATION AND LOW CRIME INCIDENCE. --IN DUTCH
