THIS SOUND/SLIDE VISUAL AID PRESENTS THE HISTORICAL BACKGROUND FOR AN EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM ON ORGANIZED CRIME.
Abstract
IT PROVIDES A WORKING DEFINITION OF ORGANIZED CRIME, ILLUSTRATING ITS ELEMENTS, AND DESCRIBES THE ORIGIN OF THE MAFIA AND ITS HISTORY IN SICILY. IT TRACES MOVEMENT OF THE MAFIA TO THE UNITED STATES AND THE JURISDICTIONAL DECISIONS OF THE APPALACIAN CONFERENCE, AND IDENTIFIES MAFIA LEADERSHIP FROM CAPONE THRU ANASTASE, GENNOVESE, LANSKY AND BONNANO. IT ILLUSTRATES FAMILY INTER-RELATIONSHIPS, MULTIPLE CRIMINAL AND BUSINESS INVOLVEMENT AND TYPICAL GANG ORGANIZATION. IT IS ACCOMPANIED BY AN INSTRUCTOR'S GUIDE AND LESSON PLAN WHICH PROVIDE SUGGESTIONS AND INFORMATION FOR CLASSROOM EXTENSION OF THE TOPIC. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT)
