THE ARTICLE DESCRIBES THE USE OF ORGANIZATIONAL DEVELOPMENT (OD), RELATING OD ACTIVITIES THAT HAVE BEEN COMPLETED WITHIN THE COLUMBUS, OHIO, DIVISION OF POLICE OVER THE PAST TWO YEARS.
Abstract
OD IS A SYSTEMATIC APPROACH TO DEVELOPING AND MAINTAINING HIGH LEVELS OF ORGANIZATIONAL EFFECTIVENESS THROUGH AN APPROPRIATE INTEGRATION OF TASKS, TECHNOLOGY, ORGANIZATION STRUCTURE, AND HUMAN RESOURCES. INITIALLY, TWO TARGET AREAS WERE SELECTED FOR OD PROJECTS: THE PROCESSES OF MANAGEMENT AND SUPERVISION WITHIN THE DIVISION AND THE PROCESS OF SELECTION AND DEVELOPMENT OF NEW POLICE OFFICERS. REASONS FOR SUCCESS OF THE PROGRAM ARE MANAGEMENT SUPPORT AND COMMITMENT, AND COOPERATION BETWEEN POLICE PERSONNEL AND PROFESSIONAL OD SPECIALISTS. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED)...TWH
