THE ORGANIZATION, ADMINISTRATION, AND ACTIVITIES OF THE POLICE FORCE SERVING THE 72,000 INHABITANTS OF THE ISLAND OF ANTIGUA ARE REPORTED.
Abstract
THE FORCE IS RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL ASPECTS OF POLICE OPERATIONS, PLUS FIRE SERVICES, IMMIGRATION, AND ANY OTHER DUTIES ASSIGNED BY THE GOVERNMENT. THE FORCE'S PRIMARY FUNCTIONS ARE THE PREVENTION AND DETECTION OF CRIMES AND REPRESSION OF INTERNAL DISTURBANCES, THE DEFENSE OF THE STATE AGAINST EXTERNAL AGGRESSION, THE SERVICE AND EXECUTION OF COURT PROCESSES, AND ALL OTHER DUTIES ASSOCIATED WITH THE OFFICE OF CONSTABLE. OTHER FUNCTIONS INCLUDE FIRE FIGHTING; REGISTERING AND LICENSING MOTOR VEHICLES, DOGS, FIREARMS, DRIVERS, ETC.; VERIFYING WEIGHTS AND MEASURES; CONTROLLING IMMIGRATION; AND PREVENTING AND DETECTING SMUGGLING AND DRUG TRAFFICKING. THE REPORT OPENS WITH A SURVEY OF OPERATIONS DURING 1976, FOLLOWED BY INFORMATION ON PERSONNEL, EQUIPMENT, RECRUITMENT, TRAINING, CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION ACTIVITIES, TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT ACTIVITIES, SOCIAL SERVICES, FIREFIGHTING, AND OTHER ACTIVITIES.
