This report describes progress in achieving objectives for a study of the feasibility of surveying inmates in Ontario regional prisons to determine their need for alcohol and drug treatment programs.
Abstract
Progress toward study objectives is that achieved as of June 30, 1984, the date set in the project contract for the completion of five major objectives. One objective was to conduct a pilot use and revision of an assessment battery with 15 inmates in 9 institutions. The battery has has been developed and revised, and interviews are nearly completed. A second objective, the training of student interviewers, has been completed. The objective of developing screening procedures has been achieved in a two-phased screening process accompanied by documentation forms. The study has completed the objective of identifying suitable sites within each institution for the inmate interviews. The fifth objective, the submission of a comprehensive proposal and final report, has also been completed. The report concludes that, despite minor problems resulting partly from procedural and administrative variations among institutions, the Phase II inmate survey can be implemented as planned. It may be necessary to reduce the sample size or increase the time span for the survey because of space limitations in most institutions. 3 tables, 4 footnotes, 2 references, and appended study materials.
