This document reports on drug overdose and drug trend surveillance data collection and analysis, information sharing, and implementing overdose prevention and harm reduction activities that are undertaken by the Overdose Response Team.

Abstract

The Overdose Response Team (ORT) develops and disseminates coordinated public education messages regarding overdose spikes and emerging drug trends. ORT uses the data collected to support a post-overdose follow up program for overdose survivors as well as several other Oneida County Opioid Task Force (OTF) data-driven initiatives, which are summarized in this report. The report has three main sections which follow an introduction to the OTF and ORT, and a timeline of opioid and task force highlights. The three main sections are: Overdose and Drug Threat Surveillance; Spike Response; and Putting Data to Action. The third section, Putting Data to Action, includes information regarding the Overdose Detection Mapping Application Program (ODMAP) post-overdose follow-up program, outreach efforts, and first aid campaigns. The document also describes OTF’s increased engagement and resources that resulted from the data-driven responses discussed in the report; lessons learned; and a sample ORT meeting agenda.
