Abstract
THE STUDY ATTEMPTED TO EXAMINE THE LEVELS AND CHANGES OF POLITICAL VIOLENCE FROM 1819 TO THE PRESENT. IT WAS BASED ON A SAMPLING OF NEWSPAPER ISSUES FROM TWO SOURCES. ADJUSTMENTS WERE MADE FOR POPULATION AND NEWSPAPER SIZE. THE FINDINGS OF THE AUTHOR LEAD TO THE CONCLUSION THAT THE PRESENT PERIOD IS NO MORE VIOLENT THAN SOME OF THE PREVIOUS ONES. SEVERAL GRAPHS AND TABLES ARE INCLUDED.
