This update offers an overview of the upcoming 2010 National Drug Control Strategy.
Abstract
The 2010 National Drug Control Strategy will reflect a new focus on efforts to reduce drug consumption in the United States with a commitment of energy and resources in the areas of prevention, intervention, treatment, recovery, criminal justice innovations, interdiction, and source-country drug control. Under the new Administration, the Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) has redefined demand reduction to include a more intense concentration on recovery from addiction. This focus on recovery will provide the Nation with a new lens through which to view addiction and new policies that will sustain renewed health and wellness for those striving to remain drug free. Also, ONDCP has made reducing drug-impaired driving a priority for 2010 and, as part of the Administration's soon-to-be-released National Drug Control Strategy, is working with the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT), the U.S. Department of Justice, and others on new initiatives aimed at getting drug-impaired drivers off the road. Future updates will follow on the implementation of the 2010 National Strategy.
