Abstract
THIS REPORT DISCUSSES JAILS AND PRISONS IN THE UNITED STATES, AS INSTITUTIONS OF DETENTION AND OF PUNISHMENT TO CREATE A FRAME OF REFERENCE FOR A DISCUSSION OF CONTEMPORARY CORRECTIONS AND TO DRAW CONCLUSIONS REGARDING CORRECTIONS BASED IN THE COMMUNITY. THE CORRECTIONS PROCESS, CONCLUSIONS DRAWN FROM THIS PROCESS, AND THEIR APPLICABILITY TO OMAHA-DOUGLAS COUNTY ARE EXAMINED. THE REPORT DESCRIBES A NUMBER OF CORRECTIONAL INNOVATIONS WHICH MERIT INVESTIGATION AND EVALUATION. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED)
