A 12-percent random sample of 367 persons released from Oklahoma correctional facilities during 1982 formed the basis of an analysis of the rates of recidivism and comparisons by type of release, offense category, and race.
Abstract
The time out of prison was calculated as of April 1, 1985. The overall recidivism rate has changed little in the last several years and is consistent with rates elsewhere. Violent parole releases were the most successful group, with an 89-percent success rate. The least successful group was nonviolent offenders released to community supervision, with a 56-percent success rate after 3 years. Whites and nonwhites had similar success rates.
