Ohio's Commission on Socially Disadvantaged Black Males outlines overall strategies and presents 112 recommendations for effective action to improve the situation of African-American males in Ohio.
Abstract
The Commission specifies five strategies to improve the situation of Ohio's African-American males: (1) increase the responsibility and level of activity of African-American communities in addressing the problems, (2) implement programs and activities to raise the self-esteem and self-pride of young African-American men, (3) continue the Commission in order to maintain focus and momentum towards developing and implementing solutions, (4) provide sufficient funding to address these problems, and (5) increase the involvement and awareness of the public and private sector on issues and solutions affecting African-American males. Recommendations address education, health, employment, and criminal justice concerns. 2 appendixes
