This report presents statistics regarding the activities of the Ohio Court of Claims during fiscal year 1994 and the victim compensation awarded by the court.
Abstract
The court made decisions on 8,004 claims during the reporting period, the highest number ever and an increase of more than 18 percent over fiscal year 1993. Compensation was awarded in 5,526 claims and denied in 2,478 claims. The average award was $2,501.09. A total of $13.9 million were awarded to victims during fiscal year 1994. Claimants were almost equally divided between males and females. The largest number were between 21 and 40 years of age. Since the Ohio General Assembly passed the Victims of Crime Act in 1976, the Court of Claims has awarded more than $137 million to more than 42,000 victims of violence.
