This handbook for Ohio police officers outlines elements of the Ohio Criminal Code likely to apply to officers' daily enforcement activities.
Abstract
Part I of the handbook contains the elements of crimes in outline form. Included are the elements of major traffic offenses and other miscellaneous offenses, in addition to all crimes established by the Criminal Code. It also contains a penalty table that lists the basic penalties for most offenses. The chapters of the Criminal Code outlined address general provisions; homicide and assault; kidnapping and extortion; sex offenses; arson and related offenses; robbery, burglary, trespass, and safecracking; theft and fraud; gambling; public order offenses; offenses against the family; offenses against justice and public administration; drug offenses; and conspiracy, attempt, and complicity. Part II, which focuses on law enforcement procedures, contains an up-to-date list of the miscellaneous sections of the Criminal Code that are most likely to affect the officer's daily work. Part III contains selected criminal rules, and Part IV presents an updated glossary/index. The handbook is intended for use by law enforcement professionals who are familiar with the Criminal Code and Rules of Criminal Procedure, along with educators and students in the criminal justice sciences.
