This is a visual presentation given to newcomers to the military on the prevalence of military gangs, their activities, modus operandi, and the work of the Armed Forces Disciplinary Control Board (AFDCB)to eliminate this crime at Fort Bragg and Pope Air Force Base.
Abstract
This visual presentation includes information on gangs in the military whose activities include drug trafficking, weapons dealing, violent crime, extortion, loan sharking, and check kiting. A discussion of the meaning of participation in these activities is covered, including active and passive participation. A review of the laws, regulations, and policies specifically relating to gangs/extremist groups in the U.S. Army is provided. Information on the Uniform Code of Military Justice is provided, including Articles 81, 92, 116, 117, and 134. Policy Letter No. 78 is summarized. The extremist symbols are shown for Aryan Nations, Black Panthers, Nazi Swastika, and National Socialists, and White Aryan Resistance and Skinhead Symbols. Visual examples of gang identifiers, such as hand signs, tatoos, clothing, activity indicators, and warnings are provided in general and in some cases for a specific extremist group. A concluding section describes the AFDCB mission statement and its areas of consideration, how to obtain an off-limits establishments list, and AFDCB enforcement.
