This report provides information regarding selected characteristics (offense at admission, race/ethnicity, age, and county of commitment) of New Jersey parolees as of December 31, 1992, based on information in the Department of Corrections computer files as of January 31, 1993.
Abstract
Results revealed that 33 percent (10,125) of the total parole population consisted of violent offenders, whose crimes included robbery, assault, homicide, sex offenses, and other offenses against persons. Forty percent had committed drug law offenses. Sixty percent of the parole population was black, 21 percent was white, and 19 percent was Hispanic. Ninety-six percent were age 21 or over, including 37 percent who were ages 21-29 and 38 percent who were ages 30-39. Forty-four percent were from the four major counties of Bergen, Essex, Hudson, and Passaic. Figures, tables, and map
