This handbook describes general procedures for becoming licensed as a private investigator, with references to laws and procedures in Ohio, and lists special licensing requirements for each State.
Abstract
Licensing classifications for private investigators include investigation and watch/guard, investigation only, and watch/guard only. Procedures and preparation for the licensing examination are described, and sample examination questions with answers are provided. Other licensing requirements considered are applicant fingerprints, mug shots, character references, authorization to carry firearms, minimum age, fees, insurance, surety bonds, and badges and uniforms. The State-by-State listing of private investigator license requirements includes such items as the address of the licensing commission, minimum age, experience required, insurance requirements, fees, insurance, residency, firearms regulations, license classifications, educational requirements, and examination requirements.
