THIS VOLUME IS THE EIGHTH IN THE OFFENDER-BASED STATE CORRECTIONS INFORMATION SERIES (OBSCIS), WHICH COLLECTIVELY REPRESENTS A DEFINITIVE REPORT ON THE PROJECT'S CORRECTIONS INFORMATION MODEL AND ITS USE.
Abstract
VOLUME 8 REVIEWS THE PROGRESS MADE BY STATES THAT HAVE CHOSEN TO USE THE BASIC OBSCIS SOFTWARE PACKAGE SUMMARIZES THE TRANSFERS, AND DESCRIBES THE VARIOUS ENVIRONMENTS OF THE IMPLEMENTING STATES. THE INTRODUCTORY MATERIAL CONTAINS BRIEF ACCOUNTS OF OBSCIS DEVELOPMENT AND THE BASIC PROGRAM COMPONENTS. INSTALLING AND ENHANCING BASIC OBSCIS IS DESCRIBED THROUGH THE INSTALLATION AND APPLICATION EXPERIENCES OF PROGRAMS IN IOWA, KANSAS, SOUTH DAKOTA, AND ALASKA. CURRENT INSTALLATION PLANNING INCLUDES ESTABLISHING A USER GROUP, PERFORMING A COMPARATIVE DATA ANALYSIS, AND DEVELOPING A DATA DICTIONARY. PREINSTALLATION PLANNING IS EMPHASIZED, AS IS THE DISTRIBUTION OF OPERATIONAL AND ADMINISTRATIVE REPORTS. A CONCLUDING SECTION ASSESSES THE FUTURE OF BASIC OBSCIS. ILLUSTRATIONS ARE PROVIDED. (MRK)
