THIS STUDY ANALYZED ALL JUVENILE BOYS FROM HENNEPIN AND RAMSEY COUNTIES (MN) RELEASED ON PAROLE FROM THE STATE TRAINING SCHOOL AT RED WING, MINNESOTA, BETWEEN JANUARY 1 AND JULY 31, 1966.
Abstract
FROM SIX TO THIRTEEN MONTHS FOLLOWING THEIR RELEASE, 159 PAROLEES WERE CLASSIFIED RECIDIVIST OR NON-RECIDIVIST ON THE BASIS OF AGGRESSIVE ACTING OUT BEHAVIOR AND THE SUBJECT'S PAROLE STATUS. EACH PAROLEE WAS RATED ON A PROBLEM CHECKLIST BY HIS PAROLE AGENT. SEVENTY-EIGHT SUBJECTS COMPLETED THE M-B HISTORY RECORD, AND 156 SUBJECTS WERE ANALYZED ACCORDING TO DATA FROM THE MINNESOTA MULTIPHASIC PERSONALITY INVENTORY (MMPI). IT WAS PREDICTED THAT RECIDIVISTS WOULD SCORE HIGHER ON M-B FACTORS RELATED TO FAMILY INSUFFICIENCY, MALADJUSTED SCHOOL HISTORY, AND ADOLESCENT MORAL REBELLION AND LOWER ON MIDDLE CLASS STANDARDS AND FAMILY STABILITY. THE M-B FACTORS WERE GENERALLY LACKING IN RELIABILITY. GROUPS TENDED TO DIFFER IN THE PREDICTED DIRECTIONS NOT SIGNIFICANTLY. THERE WAS LITTLE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE GROUPS IN ALL MMPI COMPARISONS. THE APPENDIX CONTAINS A COPY OF THE PROBLEM CHECKLIST AND THE M-B HISTORY RECORD AND RESULTS OF THE MMPI. A BIBLIOGRAPHY IS ALSO PROVIDED. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED)
