FINAL REPORT OF A PROJECT TO ANALYZE EXISTING TRAINING PROCEDURES AND OBJECTIVES AND REDEFINE THE TOTAL TRAINING PROCESS EMPLOYED BY THE OAKLAND POLICE DEPARTMENT.
Abstract
TO CONDUCT THE ANALYSIS, A MULTI-DISCIPLINARY GROUP OF PROFESSIONALS WAS ESTABLISHED. THEY ATTENDED TRAINING SESSIONS, INTERVIEWED RECRUITS AND TRAINING PERSONNEL, AND REVIEWED PERTINENT TEXTS AND PERIODICALS. PROJECT MEMBERS WERE ALSO INVOLVED WITH WRITING THE TRAINING MANUAL FOR ONE SESSION AS WELL AS PARTICIPATING IN A LEADERSHIP CAPACITY DURING THE FIRST FIVE WEEKS OF SCHOOL AND AT ROLE PLAYING SESSIONS. IMPLEMENTATION OF CHANGES IN THE NATURE AND STRUCTURE OF TRAINING, PARTICULARLY IN REGARD TO POLICE COMMUNITY RELATIONS, RESULTED FROM THIS PROJECT.
