This efficient adaptive Fourier transform domain fiber for enhancement of laser-luminescent fingerprints involves selective amplification of the spectral band containing the highest energy, and subsequent use of a band-pass filter.
Abstract
The principal objective of Fourier spectral enhancement is to process a given image to that the result is more suitable than the original image for a specific application; the technique increases the dynamic range of the chosen features so that they can be easily detected. In this study, enhancement techniques were used on noisy fingerprints with non-uniform contrast. Results obtained through conventional enhancement techniques were inadequate, and even results obtained through contrast enhancement techniques and band-pass filtering were poor compared to the noise-free images produced by adaptive Fourier spectral enhancement. 8 figures and 18 references
