Notes on Methodological Issues in Criminal Justice Sanctions

NCJ Number

These methodological notes were compiled during the coding of experimental studies for a meta-analysis of the studies listed in the Registry of Randomized Criminal Justice Experiments in Sanctions.
Abstract
Some of the experiments are not mentioned due to a lack of information. The notes include flowcharts that highlight what persons were eligible for the experiment, when the randomization took place, and the types of conditions to which participants were assigned. Each chart is followed by notes focusing on concerns about the specific research design. The citations for the experimental reports and reviews of these studies are listed in the Registry as published in September 1990. For that report, see NCJ-129725.
