Recommendations are given regarding the appropriate salaries and special allowances to be allotted to 13 non-Home Departments Police Forces in the United Kingdom. They are based on site visits, interviews, and a review of past recommendations concerning pay and conditions of service (i.e., the right to strike) for the 13 police forces.
Abstract
Among the recommendations listed are the suggestions that the Ministry of Defence Police should be paid 95 percent relative to the Home Department's forces; that the British Transport Police should be paid 100 percent relative to Home forces; that officers in each of the five port, dock, or harbor forces should be placed on a pay scale of 90 percent relative to the Home forces; and that the Royal Parks Constabulary should receive 85 percent of the Home forces' pay. Suggestions regarding allowances include the proposal that the Northern Ireland Special Duty Allowance should not be paid to the Northern Ireland Airports Constabulary. Suggestions are also given concerning implementation of the updated pay scales. The report's methodology, a list and description of the 13 forces involved, tabular data, and footnotes are appended.
