This report discusses the United States and worldwide situation related to cocaine, opiates, marijuana, chemicals used to make drugs, and drug money during 1994, based on the best available data and the combined expertise of Federal agencies responsible for drug law enforcement, domestic and foreign policy, drug treatment, drug research, and intelligence.
Abstract
The analysis revealed that cocaine was available in almost all major United States cities in 1994. Colombian drug organizations managed most cocaine trafficking and operated cocaine distribution and drug money laundering networks with multiple cells in several major metropolitan areas. Cocaine prices ranged from $10,500 to $40,000 per kilogram nationally. The heroin available in the United States was produced in southeast Asia, southwest Asia and the Middle East, Mexico, and South America. Heroin was readily available in many cities in the United States. Heroin purity on the street was directly related to availability and was generally highest in the northeastern United States. Marijuana was the most widely abused and readily available illicit drug in the United States. Money laundering methods varied by country and regions of the world. Figures, tables, and maps
