Abstract
A BRIEF STATEMENT ABOUT EACH OF THE COMMISSION'S 49 INVESTIGATIONS WHICH REQUIRED CONSIDERABLE TIME AND EFFORT AND RESULTED IN A PUBLIC HEARING OR REPORT IS SET FORTH IN CHRONOLOGICAL ORDER. A FULLER ANALYSIS IS GIVEN TO THE SIX UNDERTAKINGS OF 1972. UNDER INVESTIGATION BY THE COMMISSION WAS THE SCOPE AND EFFECTIVENESS OF PRESENT LAW ENFORCEMENT EFFORTS TO COMBAT DISTRIBUTION OF CONTRABAND CIGARETTES IN NEW YORK STATE. LONG ISLAND TAXPAYERS URGED THE COMMISSION TO FOLLOW UP CHARGES OF COLLUSIVE BIDDING AND PRICE FIXING WITH SCHOOL BUSING CONTRACTS IN NASSAU COUNTY. A MAJOR INVESTIGATION WAS CONDUCTED. THE COMMISSION ALSO DISCLOSED ABUSES AND DEFICIENCIES IN THE GOVERNMENTAL ADMINISTRATION OF THE COUNTY OF ALBANY WITH REGARD TO PURCHASING PRACTICES. STILL UNDER WAY ARE INVESTIGATIONS OF ALLEGATIONS OF CORRUPTION IN THE ALBANY POLICE DEPARTMENT AND IN THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM IN NEW YORK CITY.
