Abstract
THE 'MANUAL,' UPON WHICH THE 'GUIDEBOOK' IS BASED, WAS DEVELOPED TO PROVIDE A FOUNDATION FOR EFFECTIVE AND EFICIENT PROBATION PRACTICES. THE 'MANUAL' CONTAINS CLEAR STATEMENTS OF THE GOALS OF TWENTY PROBATION FUNCTIONS. ACCOMPANYING EACH OF THE TWENTY GOALS IS A SET OF RELEVANT STANDARDS WHICH STIPULATE THE MINIMUM AND REQUIRED LEVEL OF PERFORMANCE. THE SCHEDULES, IN THE 'GUIDEBOOK' CONSIST OF ITEMS, WHICH ARE PRESENTED IN THE 'MANUAL'. EACH ITEM IS CROSS-REFERENCED TO THE PAGE IN THE 'MANUAL' FROM WHICH IT IS DERIVED. THE ORGANIZATION OF THE 'GUIDEBOOK' IS THE SAME AS THAT OF THE 'MANUAL' IN WHICH THE ELEVEN ADMINISTRATIVE CHAPTERS ARE FOLLOWED BY THE NINE SERVICE CHAPTERS. THESE GUIDEBOOK SCHEDULES ARE PRECEDED BY INTRODUCTORY CHAPTERS EXPLAINING THE PROBATION PROGRAM ANALYSIS AND REVIEW PROCESS. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT)
