THIS ARTICLE DESCRIBES THE WORK OF THE AMERICAN BAR ASSOCIATION'S COMMISSION ON STANDARDS OF JUDICIAL ADMINISTRATION IN PREPARING MODERN AND WORKABLE STANDARDS FOR COURT OPERATION.
Abstract
THE COMMISSION UNDERTOOK TO FORMULATE STANDARDS CONCERNING THE STRUCTURE OF THE COURT SYSTEMS, THE FUNDAMENTALS OF COURT PROCEDURE, AND TECHNIQUES OF MANAGING COMPLICATED DOCKETS. THEIR WORK WAS DIVIDED INTO THREE PRINCIPAL PHASES - COURT ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE, TRIAL COURT PROCEDURE AND ADMINISTRATION, AND APPELLATE COURT PROCEDURE AND ADMINISTRATION. TWO REPORTS, 'STANDARDS RELATING TO COURT ORGANIZATION' AND 'STANDARDS RELATING TO TRIAL COURT', HAVE ALREADY BEEN COMPLETED. IT IS EXPECTED THAT THE THIRD PRODUCT, 'STANDARDS RELATING TO APPELLATE COURTS', WILL BE READY AFTER FEBRUARY 1977.
