Abstract
This report presents data on crime reported to, or detected by, the New South Wales (NSW) Police Force from January 1995 to December 2009, with a focus on the statistical trends for the 24 months ending December 2009. The data for the report were obtained from the Computerized Operational Policing System (COPS) of the NSW Police Force in 2010. Divided into five sections, the report presents (1) an overview of trends in violent and property crime, (2) an overview of trends in recorded crime, by offense type, (3) trends, rate comparisons and recorded criminal incidents for major offenses, NSW and local government areas, (4) methods of proceedings against alleged offender, 2007-2009, and (5) cleared criminal incidents and whether legal proceedings commenced for selected offenses, 2007 to 2009. A new section was added to crime trends relating to aggregate violent and property crime. With an overview of trends in the most recent 2-year period for a selection of major offense categories, data indicate at the State level, for the 2 years to the end of December 2009, that no major offense category had been trending upwards. Eight of the 17 major offense categories were trending downwards including 2 robbery offenses and 6 theft offenses. Tables, figures, and appendixes 1-5
