Abstract
ELECTRONIC ARTICLE SURVEILLANCE SYSTEMS ARE BEING TESTED, AND IMPROVEMENTS WILL ENABLE THIS EQUIPMENT TO BE INSTALLED ON A COST-DISPLACEMENT BASIS BY ELIMINATING THE NEED FOR FITTING ROOM CHECKERS AND GUARDS. ONE MANUFACTURER HAS ANNOUNCED THE EMERGENCE OF AN AREA SURVEILLANCE SYSTEM ACCOMPANIED BY A DIGITAL COMPUTER WITH CLOSED CIRCUIT TECHNOLOGIES, CAPABLE OF COVERING UP TO 16 AREAS 30 TIMES A SECOND, SOUNDING AN ALARM AND DISPLAYING THE LOCATION OF THE INTRUDER ON THE SCREEN.
