THIS BOOK EXPLAINS THE PROVISIONS OF THE (ENGLISH) CRIMINAL JUSTICE ACT OF 1972 FOR THE BENEFIT OF MAGISTRATES, PROBATION OFFICERS, DEFENSE COUNSEL, AND SOCIAL SERVICE VOLUNTEERS.
Abstract
THE FIRST PART OF THIS COMMENTARY IS A GENERAL SURVEY OF THE NEW POWERS OF SENTENCING. IT DESCRIBES THE CHANGES THAT HAVE BEEN MADE BY THE ACT OF 1972 AND ATTEMPTS TO PROJECT A SOUND APPROACH TO SENTENCING. PART TWO OF THE COMMENTARY DEALS WITH ALL THE REMAINING PROVISIONS OF THE ACT. THE ACT ITSELF IS ALSO REPRODUCED.
