This report presents information on selected inmate characteristics in each correctional complex, major institution, and satellite housing unit for both adults and juveniles in the New Jersey Department of Corrections on December 31, 1992.
Abstract
The characteristics include offense, total sentence length, race, age, county of commitment, and mandatory minimum terms. The data reveal that 46 percent of the inmates were committed for personal crimes, including homicide, sexual assault, aggravated or simple assault, assault, robbery, kidnapping, other sex offenses, and other personal offenses. Thirty-four percent of the inmates were drug offenders. Thirty-eight percent had maximum statutory sentences of 10 years or more.
