Abstract
BOTH FULL-TIME SCHOOL COURSES FOR INMATES AND COURSES WHICH COMBINE CLASSROOM TRAINING WITH WORK EXPERIENCE ARE OFFERED. THERE ARE SEVEN PROGRAMS PROVIDING FULL VOCATIONAL TRAINING: AUTO BODY REPAIR, AUTO MECHANICS, SMALL ENGINE REPAIR, FOOD SERVICE, WOODWORKING, GRAPHIC ARTS, AND AN ORIENTATION COURSE CALLED JOBS AND EMPLOYMENT TRAINING. THE SIX PREVOCATIONAL TRAINING COURSES ARE GAS WELDING AND CUTTING, USE OF SERVICE MANUALS, USING HAND TOOLS, BLUEPRINT READING (MECHANICAL DRAWING), USING MEASURING TOOLS, AND SHOP SAFETY. IN ADDITION, A STUDENT MAY TAKE INDIVIDUAL COURSES. THE STUDENT WHO WISHES TO LEARN MEATCUTTING MAY LEARN THIS SKILL THROUGH THE FOOD SERVICE PROGRAM, BUT DOES NOT HAVE TO TAKE THE ENTIRE FOOD SERVICE CURRICULUM. THE COURSE DESCRIPTIONS CONTAIN THE COURSE NAME, THE TYPICAL NUMBER OF CLASSROOM HOURS REQUIRED, SKILLS TO BE LEARNED, AND COMPETENCY TESTING REQUIRED AT THE END. (GLR)
