This statistical report presents information on the age at time of arrest together with an age breakdown of the general prison population in Nebraska during 1977. Data were tabulated by age and sex for each of the Uniform Crime Report crime categories.
Abstract
Age 16 is the peak age of arrests for Part I offenses. Nearly two-thirds of all Part I arrests involve youth between 10-19 who comprise less than one-fifth of the State's population. By age 20, the arrest rate begins to decline. From about age 30 on, arrests represent a share of total arrests smaller than each age group represents in the general population. Four out of five of those arrested are male. Data tables and graphs illustrate the information.
