AN ANALYSIS OF NEVADA'S CORRECTIONS SYSTEM AND A DETAILED PRESENTATION OF RECOMMENDATIONS FOR CHANGE IN ALL AREAS.
Abstract
THIS REPORT ENCOMPASSES BOTH ADULT AND JUVENILE CORRECTIONS, INCLUDING AGENCIES OPERATED ON BOTH THE STATE AND LOCAL LEVELS. EQUAL CONSIDERATION IS GIVEN TO ACTIVITIES WHICH OCCUR IN INSTITUTIONS AS WELL AS TO THOSE WHICH OCCUR OUTSIDE OF RESIDENTIAL INSTITUTIONS AT THE COMMUNITY LEVEL. THE MASTER PLAN CONTAINS THREE BASIC TYPES OF INFORMATION AND RECOMMENDATIONS: COMPREHENSIVE DATA AND INFORMATION ON EVERY ASPECT OF THE CLIENT POPULATION OF NEVADA'S CORRECTIONS SYSTEM; AN ANALYSIS OF ALL THE INFORMATION COLLECTED; AND A DETAILED PRESENTATION OF THE VARIOUS MEANS BY WHICH MANY OF THE PROBLEMS CAN BE RESOLVED. THIS PRESENTATION INCLUDES AN OVERVIEW OF NECESSARY LEGISLATIVE ACTION, STAFF REQUIRED, COSTS OF RECOMMENDED SOLUTIONS AND APPROACHES TO OBTAINING FUNDING, AND THE SPECIFIC WAYS IN WHICH CHANGES IN EXISTING APPROACHES COULD BE IMPLEMENTED. THE MAJOR RECOMMENDATIONS ARE SUMMARIZED AS TEN MAJOR GOALS, FOUR OF WHICH PERTAIN TO JUVENILE CORRECTIONS AND THE REMAINING SIX TO ADULT CORRECTIONS. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT)
