EXAMINATION OF RELATIONSHIPS THAT EXIST BETWEEN THE DEMOGRAPHIC CHARACTERISTICS OF SELECTED NEIGHBORHOODS AND THE JUVENILES THERE WHO COME IN CONTACT WITH THE POLICE.
Abstract
BASED ON A PHOENIX, ARIZONA, POPULATION SURVEY, THE FOLLOWING CHARACTERISTICS WERE MEASURED AND RELATED TO INCIDENCE OF JUVENILE DELINQUENCY - LOCATION WITHIN THE CITY, FEMALE HEADED HOUSEHOLDS, NUMBER OF CARS PER FAMILY, FAMILY MOBILITY, HOUSING AND INCOME, EMPLOYMENT AND EDUCATION, AND ETHNIC BACKGROUND. SINCE NARCOTIC VIOLATIONS APPEAR TO BE AFFECTED BY THESE AND OTHER FACTORS IN A MANNER UNLIKE MOST JUVENILE OFFENSES, THIS CLASS IS ANALYZED SEPARATELY.
