STATISTICS ON ENROLLMENT, STAFF, EXPENDITURES, AND SERVICES IN STATE PROGRAMS FOR NEGLECTED OR DELINQUENT CHILDREN DURING FISCAL 1971 ARE REPORTED.
Abstract
THE STATISTICS WERE DRAWN FROM THE SURVEY RESPONSES OF 257 OF THE 271 STATE INSTITUTIONS RECEIVING FUNDS UNDER TITLE I OF THE ELEMENTARY AND SECONDARY EDUCATION ACT. FOR EACH TYPE OF INSTITUTION, SUMMARY STATISTICS ARE PRESENTED ON PUPIL PARTICIPATION, STAFF POSITIONS, STAFF TRAINING, TITLE I FUND EXPENDITURES, AND SERVICES (INSTRUCTIONAL AND SUPPORT). DURING FISCAL 1971, $16.4 MILLION IN TITLE I FUNDS WAS DIRECTED TOWARD IMPROVING THE QUALITY OF EDUCATION FOR INSTITUTIONALIZED NEGLECTED OR DELINQUENT CHILDREN. OF THE 53,595 RESIDENT CHILDREN IN STATE-OPERATED OR STATE-SUPPORTED PROGRAMS, 4,972 WERE NEGLECTED AND 48,623 WERE DELINQUENT. SEPARATE TABLES ARE PRESENTED FOR PUERTO RICO AND THE VIRGIN ISLANDS. IN ADDITION TO THE SUMMARY DATA, 86 TABLES PRESENT BREAKDOWNS BY STATE. A COPY OF THE SURVEY INSTRUMENT IS INCLUDED.
