This document from the Nebraska Crime Commission is a reference guide for use in determining how juvenile offenders are treated by the State's juvenile justice system.
Abstract
This reference guide was prepared by the Nebraska Crime Commission for use with juvenile offenders involved with the State's juvenile justice system. The document provides information on definitions used by the U.S. Department of Justice's Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) on types of juveniles and types of facilities. Additionally, the guide contains a flowchart for use in determining if a juvenile is in a secure or non-secure custody status in an adult jail or lockup. This is followed by a summarization of the type of detention allowable in secure juvenile facilities, adult jails and lockups, and other types of correctional facilities for different types of juvenile offenders. The last section of the guide provides another flowchart for determining the types of facilities available for status offenders, delinquents, and non-offenders, depending on whether the individual has been adjudicated or just accused.
