This report outlines national trends for juveniles incarcerated in corrective institutions and prisons in Australia between 1981 and 1992.
Abstract
The first section discusses data collected by the Australian Institute on Criminology on juveniles in corrective institutions, aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander data, the types of population data used here, and rules governing juvenile offenders in each jurisdiction in Australia. The tables present statistics calculated by race, age, gender, detention status, and jurisdiction. The last 11 tables compare the number of persons under 20 years in juvenile institutions and adult prisons, by jurisdiction and sex, as of June 30 in each year between 1982 and 1992. 18 tables, 5 figures, and 2 appendixes
