This volume identifies black judicial officers in the Federal judiciary, the District of Columbia judiciary, and each State's judiciary in 1980.
Abstract
It is intended as a reference for attorneys who wish to contact black judges and as a resource for researchers wishing to survey black judges. It also aims to facilitate the exchange of information and experience among black judges and to provide citizens and journalists with names of community members who can provide a minority perspective on pressing local concerns. An introductory essay examines the history of black judges in the U.S. and reasons for blacks' underrepresentation in the judiciary. Currently, there are 505 black judges in State judiciaries and 94 blacks on appellate courts and in the District of Columbia. Each court's address and the names of black judges serving on it are listed. Footnotes are also included.
