This codebook presents the variables and coding information for the data set which gives the names, addresses, agency types, case types, branch offices, employment, and funding sources for 490 State and local public defender agencies listed in the National Justice Agency List.

Abstract

The introduction describes the study and discusses data collection procedures, file structure, data standards, and codebook information. The data are available in two formats: a card-image file and an OSIRIS data set. An appendix, which explains the classification of governmental units, and a glossary classification of governmental units, and a glossary are included.
