This report describes the efforts by the National Institute of Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice to encourage research and development to improve and strengthen law enforcement and criminal justice during fiscal year 1976.
Abstract
Allied to the Institute's central mission of research is the responsibility for evaluating criminal justice practices and for translating research findings into workable programs. The research during the year focused on the problems of victims and witnesses, sexual assault trauma and ways to address it, physical crime prevention, preventive police patrol, neighborhood team policing, the management of criminal investigations, police equipment, court procedures, indigent defense services, mandatory minimum sentences, and the reintegration of ex-offenders into society.
