Abstract
The lead article discusses evidence that short-term crackdowns on specific crimes or in specific neighborhoods can have deterrent effects even after the crackdown is over. The article does not advocate crackdowns but rather considers how they might be used and evaluated more effectively. The second article discusses how Oregon, through new legislation and substantial grassroots efforts, has strengthened its juvenile justice system. Public agencies, private organizations and businesses cooperate to work with juveniles on all levels and activities. The document includes abstracts of publications on corrections; courts; criminology; drugs and crime; juvenile justice; law enforcement; and reference and statistics. Notes, index
