THIS MODEL SERVES AS A GENERAL SELF-EVALUATION GUIDE FOR EXAMINING EDUCATION PROGRAMS OR PROJECTS IN CORRECTIONAL INSTITUTIONS.
Abstract
THE EVALUATION MODEL IS DESIGNED TO HELP ADMINISTRATORS AND PRACTITIONERS IDENTIFY AND EXAMINE THE CRITICAL ELEMENTS IN A GIVEN EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM. THE MODEL IS DIVIDED INTO FIVE SECTIONS. SECTION I PROVIDES A FORMAT THROUGH WHICH TO EXAMINE RESOURCES, INSTITUTIONAL LIMITATIONS, AND CHARACTERISTICS OF THE STUDENTS IN THE PROGRAM. SECTION II EXAMINES PHILOSOPHY, OBJECTIVES AND PRIORITIES OF THE PROGRAM. THE NATURE AND EFFECTIVENESS OF ACADEMIC AND VOCATIONAL COUNSELING PROVIDED FOR INMATES IS EXAMINED IN SECTION III. SECTION IV DEALS WITH CURRICULUM DESIGN, AND SECTION V ASSESSES THE NUMERICAL AND QUALITATIVE ADEQUACY OF STAFF, AND INCLUDES QUESTIONS ON TRAINING, SALARIES AND BENEFITS, AND STAFF MORALE. AN APPENDIX PRESENTS DATA COLLECTED FROM QUESTIONNAIRE RESPONDENTS IN THE NATIONAL CORRECTIONAL EDUCATION EVALUATION PROJECT SURVEY, WHICH USED THE DESCRIBED MODEL.
