THIS REPORT PROVIDES A REVIEW OF THE PLANNING PROCESS THAT PRECEDED THE CONFERENCE, AN OUTLINE OF THE MATERIALS DISTRIBUTED TO PARTICIPANTS, SUMMARIES OF THE WORKING SESSIONS, AND A PARTICIPANT EVALUATION OF THE CONFERENCE.
Abstract
ALSO INCLUDED IN THIS REPORT ARE A SERIES OF RECOMMENDATIONS REGARDING FUTURE CONFERENCES, THE FULL TEXTS OF FOUR RESOLUTIONS ADOPTED BY THE CONFERENCE, AND LISTS OF THE CONFERENCE PARTICIPANTS AND OF THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF PRETRIAL SERVICES AGENCIES OFFICERS AND COMMITTEES FOR 1974-75. MORE THAN 250 PERSONS--INCLUDING PROGRAM DIRECTORS AND STAFF PERSONNEL OF PRETRIAL SERVICES AGENCIES, DISTRICT ATTORNEYS, PUBLIC DEFENDERS, JUDGES, RESEARCHERS, REPRESENTATIVES OF FEDERAL AND LOCAL FUNDING AGENCIES, AND OTHER INTERESTED INDIVIDUALS-ATTENDED THE CONFERENCE. AMONG THE TOPICS DISCUSSED WERE THE PROBLEMS OF WOMEN IN THE FIELD OF PRETRIAL SERVICES, THE MERGER OF PRETRIAL RECEASE AND DIVERSION IN A SINGLE AGENCY, NEEDS AND PROBLEMS IN RESEARCH AND EVALUATION, LEGAL ISSUES IN PRETRIAL JUSTICE, AND PLANNING AND FUNDING PRETRIAL SERVICES. THE EVALUATION BY PARTICIPANTS SHOWED THAT MOST OF THOSE WHO ATTENDED FOUND THE CONFERENCE TO BE AN INTERESTING AND VALUABLE EXPERIENCE. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED)
