THIS REPORT, DATED OCTOBER 26, 1973, PRESENTS AN ANALYSIS OF THE CAPABILITIES, NEEDS, AND TRANSFERABILITY OF THE NASHVILLE/DAVIDSON COUNTY POLICE COMPUTER SYSTEM.
Abstract
ASSISTANCE IN THIS STUDY WAS REQUESTED BY THE TENNESSEE LAW ENFORCEMENT PLANNING AGENCY AND THE NASHVILLE/DAVIDSON COUNTY METROPOLITAN POLICE DEPARTMENT. AFTER LISTING THE DOCUMENTS REVIEWED IN THIS STUDY, THE REPORT EXAMINES SEVERAL ASPECTS OF THE GRANT APPLICATION, INCLUDING THE INTENT OF THE 12-MONTH GRANT, THE TIME RELATIONSHIP OF THE GRANT APPLICATION TO THE FIVE-YEAR MASTER PLAN, THE CHOICE OF COMPUTER EQUIPMENT, THE STATUS OF SOFTWARE DOCUMENTATION, THE BUDGET, PERSONNEL, SYSTEM DESIGN CONCEPT, AND ADEQUACY OF DATA FILES AND TERMINALS. A COMPARISON OF THE GRANT APPLICATION WITH THE MASTER PLAN IS ALSO PROVIDED. IT IS REPORTED THAT THE SYSTEM MEETS THE OBJECTIVES OF THE MASTER PLAN. TRANSFERABILITY OF THE COMPUTER AND THE POLICE FUNCTIONS OPERATING ON THE COMPUTER TO ANOTHER LOCATION WAS FOUND TO BE READILY ACHIEVABLE, BUT TRANSFERABILITY OF ONLY THE POLICE FUNCTIONS PERFORMED BY THE COMPUTER TO ANOTHER LOCATION WAS FOUND TO POSE SOME DIFFICULTIES.
