This report provides a country-by-country documentation of estimated world requirements of narcotic drugs for 1992, statistics on narcotic drugs for 1990, and a comparative statement of estimates and statistics on narcotic drugs for 1992 furnished by governments in accordance with international treaties.
Abstract
One table presents the status of adherence to the 1961 and the 1971 Conventions on Narcotic Drugs, which are the main instruments that govern the international control of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances. Another table indicates which countries have provided estimates for 1992 and statistics for 1990. Seventeen tables indicate trends in the licit movement of narcotic drugs. Among the data provided are estimate world requirements of narcotic drugs in 1992, world totals of estimates, the cultivation of papaver somniferum for the production of opium and for purposes other than the production of opium, the extraction of alkaloids from poppy straw, and the extraction of alkaloids from opium. Other tabular data pertain to the conversion of morphine, the manufacture of the principal narcotic drugs; production use, imports, and exports of coca leaves and the manufacture of cocaine, consumption of the principal narcotic drugs, and the average daily consumption of defined daily doses per million inhabitants. Other tables indicate total stocks of narcotic drugs, world trade imports and exports, seizures of narcotic drugs, and a comparative statement of estimates and statistics.
