Abstract

This publication by the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) Comprehensive Opioid, Stimulant, and Substance Abuse Program (COSSAP) addresses a number of myths about medication-assisted treatment (MAT) and corrects them with facts. Medication-assisted treatment (MAT) is considered a safe and effective treatment for opioid use disorders (OUDs). MAT is a holistic approach that includes therapy and lifestyle changes in addition to medication.
